Viet-Han Da Nang Hospital in Núi Thành commune is treating far more patients than its beds were planned for, Báo Đà Nẵng reported on October 26. The hospital's bed quota was raised from 660 to 760 for 2026, but 1,030 beds are in actual use.

The paper says City People's Committee Deputy Chair Nguyễn Thị Anh Thi inspected the paediatrics ward on the morning of October 21. By that date the ward had 168 beds set up against a plan of 79, and general internal medicine had 145 against a plan of 90. Occupancy has repeatedly exceeded capacity since 2025 and once reached 108 percent, the report says.

Paediatric admissions have risen with seasonal flu. Extra beds sit in corridors, administrative areas and lift lobbies for patients with mild conditions close to discharge, and the report warns of a ventilator shortage risk in intensive care.

Director Nguyễn Đình Hùng told the paper the Korean-funded buildings are more than 14 years old and were designed for 500 beds. Even 760 beds already strains the core infrastructure, he said.

An upgrade has been stuck on funding. In 2025, when the hospital was still Quảng Nam Central General Hospital, the Ministry of Health planned to spend 163 billion dong on equipment. The hospital passed to the city and was renamed Viet-Han Da Nang Hospital on March 1, 2026, and the investment has not started because it is unclear whether central or city money will pay for it.

Department of Health Deputy Director Trương Văn Trình attributed the crowding mainly to a real rise in patient numbers and said the hospital urgently needs investment in infrastructure and equipment. The report describes no measure beyond adding beds and gives no date for the funding decision.

Why it matters: Parents in southern Da Nang and Hoi An who use the hospital's paediatric ward in flu season may find it crowded until the funding question is settled.
