Families considering Da Nang tend to ask the same three questions: Where will the kids go to school? What will it cost? And what do you do with them on a rainy Saturday? The first two have published answers, though you'll need to check them. The third depends on your kids, but the city has more options than the beach.

The international schools

The International Schools Database, a directory that compiles fees schools publish, lists seven international schools for the Da Nang area. One of them, a Hue campus, isn't in Da Nang. Its listing for the 2026/2027 school year:

  • The St. Nicholas School: American and Vietnamese curricula, ages 2 to 18, about 168.5 million to 271 million dong a year.
  • Singapore International School, Danang: British and Singaporean curricula, ages 2 to 18, about 264.7 million to 663.6 million dong.
  • APU American International School, Da Nang: American curriculum, ages 3 to 18, about 249.5 million to 597.4 million dong.
  • Odyssey International School: listed as an IB candidate school, ages 3 to 18, about 233 million to 450 million dong.
  • Hoi An International School: British and Vietnamese curricula, ages 2 to 18, about 215 million to 510 million dong.
  • UK Academy, Da Nang campus: British and Vietnamese curricula, ages 3 to 18, fees not published.

Treat these as starting points. Ask each school which grades the low and high figures apply to, and which extras, such as application, enrollment, bus, uniform and exam fees, come on top. Ask for the full fee schedule in writing, the school's accreditations, and whether there's a waiting list for your child's year group.

Since the 2025 merger, Hoi An is part of Da Nang, but it's still a long school run from the city center. Our Da Nang vs. Hoi An comparison covers the distance.

Flood days are a local decision

School closures in the rainy season don't work the way many newcomers expect. When heavy rain was forecast this October, the city told the Department of Education and Training to decide on closures together with ward and commune authorities, based on local conditions, Thanh Niên reported. So there's no single citywide snow-day-style announcement. The same week, children had to be moved out of a kindergarten in water more than a meter deep. Read our flood week report.

If your child's school is in a low-lying ward, follow that ward's announcements as well as the school's. Our rainy season guide explains the months to watch.

What families do: some priced options

The city tourism portal's 2026 price list is a useful reference for weekends:

  • Museums: the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum is free for pupils. The Museum of Cham Sculpture charges 20,000 dong for students and 60,000 for general admission. Its gods and monsters work on kids. See our museum guide.
  • Marble Mountains: 10,000 dong for students to climb Thủy Sơn, and free for children under 6. See our Marble Mountains guide.
  • Water park: Mikazuki 365 lists 200,000 dong for children on weekdays and 225,000 at weekends.
  • Ba Na Hills: 800,000 dong for children and seniors who aren't residents, or 550,000 for residents.

Then there are the free options: the beach early in the morning, the riverfront promenades and the city's parks. Our parks guide covers what's open and what's under renovation.

Water safety

The sea is the city's best playground and its main hazard. Swim with children only inside the buoy-marked zones where lifeguards are on duty. In April 2026, two adult tourists who swam outside the safe zone at Tân Trà Beach had to be rescued by a lifeguard, Tuoi Tre News reported. The board's advice: follow the lifeguards, watch the flags and listen for whistles. Our beach guide has more.

Health basics for families

Find a pediatric service before you need one, save the emergency numbers, and take dengue seriously: repellent, screens and no standing water. Our healthcare guide covers hospitals, clinics and insurance.

Before you move

  • Visit schools in person, during term, and talk to current parents.
  • Get every fee in writing, including the extras.
  • Check your visa covers your children, and your visa type allows the stay you're planning.
  • Pick housing near the school, not near the beach. The school run is twice a day. The beach is optional.
